Place of Birth: Reykjavík, Iceland
Playing Position: Attacking Midfielder

Current Club: AS Monaco

Eiður Smári Guðjohnsen and his father Arnór made a football history on 24 April 1996 when they played in an international friendly match for Iceland versus Estonia which was held in Tallinn. In that match, Arnór started the game while Guðjohnsen substituted on the second half. Both expressed their disappointments after the game because they were not allowed to play together by Eggert Magnússon, the president of the Icelandic FA. Magnússon gave an order to coach Logi Ólafsson to not play them together because he wanted that to happen in their home turf. It later happened during the match against FYR Macedonia during the first qualification round for the FIFA World Cup in 1998.

Eiður is thought to be a very skilful football player with a firm ball control which was brought by a superb combination of touch and creativity. Also, his one of a kind vision and good passing range lets him play in the deeper midfield role where he can work as a playmaker. It was shown during his time playing at FC Barcelona and at Chelsea where his resourcefulness allows him to play in the midfield when he is left with no other option because all the other positions up front are already filled.
